Nir Yufturo "The Angel"

Nir chairs Aleh Yarok and is called The Angel because of the number of people who are alive because of him. For years he volunteered with medical cannabis patients the system had abandoned — teaching people how to turn the cannabis the state legally gave them into the oil that let them come off their opioid prescriptions — and he paid legal prices for it. In his words, the merger is what turns this struggle "from protest into policy." He has said: "We fought for patients the system abandoned, and for citizens the state turned into criminals because of outdated policy."

Born in the United States, in Jamaica, Queens — PS 178 — and religious later in life, by choice rather than inheritance. He made aliyah in 2013 and lives in Jerusalem, married with four children. An ordained rabbi, educator and entrepreneur, he has spent close to two decades in psychedelic medicine and the legal frameworks that allow access to it, and works to advance clinical research in Israel into treatments for post-traumatic stress. He is a co-founder of Trippy.vc, an American psychedelic-medicine impact fund run on-chain, whose leadership group also includes Rohan Marley — Bob Marley's son and founder of the Lion Order cannabis brand — former NBA star Amar'e Stoudemire, and Natalie Lyla Ginsberg, who built the policy department at MAPS. The fund's investments include the Israeli company PsyRx, which is developing a treatment for treatment-resistant depression pairing an SSRI with a low dose of ibogaine. He has founded ventures in Jewish education, in addiction and rehabilitation, and in sustainable agriculture, and presents himself as a descendant of the Vilna Gaon. In his own words: "Israel is dealing with an enormous number of soldiers, reservists, terror victims and civilians carrying deep trauma… Judaism, in my view, is not afraid of knowledge, of science, or of healing."

Boaz founded Aleh Yarok in 1999 and is one of the world's pioneering ibogaine researchers. The party has been on the ballot ever since — a quarter of a century of making this argument before the political system was willing to listen to it.
